Who is this course for?

Do you already speak Dutch at a good level, for example B2 or the State Exam NT2 Program II (Staatsexamen NT2 Programma II), and do you want to go further? Then this course is for you. You already manage well in Dutch, but you want to express yourself more precisely, more richly and with more confidence.

Think of professionals who give presentations, take part in meetings or write reports. Or academics and students who need to read and write at a high level. Healthcare professionals who need more than B2, and people who simply want to perfect their Dutch, are welcome too.

What you will learn

At C1 and C2, everything is about nuance: not just what you say, but how you say it. You work on the skills that matter most for your goal:

• Speaking and presenting: speaking spontaneously and fluently, arguing convincingly, giving presentations and pitches, chairing meetings and negotiating.
• Writing: writing articles, reports and essays at a high level, and editing academic and business texts.
• Reading: understanding complex and specialist texts, and analysing and evaluating academic literature.
• Feel for the language: mastering nuance, idioms and register. That way you know when to be formal and when not to be.
• Pronunciation: refining your pronunciation and intonation.
• Professional language: the words and expressions of your profession or field.

How the lessons work

C1 and C2 are always taught as private lessons: one-to-one, live via video. You have one one-hour lesson per week, simply from home.

There is no fixed programme for everyone. In the free intake we discuss your level and your goal, and we tailor the lessons to them. Do you soon have to give a presentation at work, or write a difficult text? Then the lesson can focus on that.

The lessons are in Dutch. If something is difficult, your teacher can also explain it in Farsi, Dari or English. You pay per month. Read how private lessons work on the Private lessons page.

An exam or certificate?

The State Exam NT2 (Staatsexamen NT2) goes up to B2 (Program II). There is no higher programme.

Are you working as a doctor, dentist or pharmacist with a foreign diploma? Then the BIG register (BIG-register) asks for B2+: higher than B2, but lower than C1. You can only prove this level through a designated institution, such as a university language centre. Read all about it in the guide Working in healthcare.

The aim is for you to use Dutch confidently and precisely in your work, your studies or your daily life in the Netherlands: to deliver a presentation convincingly, chair a meeting and write a text that is right down to the last detail. You decide what matters most to you.
