Who is this course for?

This course is for advanced learners. Your Dutch is already at about B1, and you want to use the language at a high level.

Do you want to study at a university of applied sciences (hogeschool, HBO) or a university? If you have a foreign diploma, they usually ask for the State Exam NT2 Program II (Staatsexamen NT2 Programma II). Each institution sets its own language requirement, so check with your own programme. Program II also suits high-level work. Do you have a foreign diploma and want to work in an HBO-level healthcare profession, such as physiotherapist? Then BIG registration (BIG-registratie) requires B2. Read more in Studying in Dutch.

What you will learn

You work on the four skills of the exam, at B2 level:

• Reading. You read long and difficult texts about study and work, such as articles and reports. You quickly find the main points and the important details.
• Listening. You follow lectures, presentations, meetings and discussions, and you pick out the key information.
• Writing. You write clear, well-structured texts, such as an argumentative essay, a report or a business email. For example, you describe a problem and make a proposal. You check your own spelling and punctuation, because there is no spell checker in the exam.
• Speaking. You give your opinion and support it with arguments. You take part in discussions fluently and give a short presentation. You also practise the long speaking task of Program II, in which you talk about a topic.

How the lessons work

You have one live lesson of one hour a week, by video. You join from home, in a small group. When it helps, you get explanations in Farsi, Dari or English.

In class you speak a lot: you discuss, give your opinion and present. You do writing assignments and get feedback from the teacher.

The exam

The course prepares you for the State Exam NT2 Program II. The exam has four separate parts: Reading, Listening, Writing and Speaking. You take them on a computer. You do not have to take Program I first. In this course you practise all four parts, including under real exam conditions.

You register with DUO yourself and you also pay the exam fee to DUO yourself. Program II often fills up quickly, so register in good time. The official diploma comes from the State Exam, not from TaalPro. Read more in the guide to the State Exam NT2.

After this course

Want to go further after B2? Then continue with private lessons C1–C2. You work one-to-one on presenting, writing and conversations at a high level. This can help if your work or studies ask for more than B2. Doctors, dentists and pharmacists, for example, need a level above B2 for BIG registration.
